The three opening verses of the last quarter of the Sūrat al-An‘ām containing ten commandments.
"Āyāt al-Wasāyā al-‘Ashr" (Verses of the Ten Commandments): The Noble Qur’an contains verses which the scholars called "Āyāt al-Wasāyā al-‘Ashr" because they contain ten great commandments issued by Allah to mankind. They are verses 151 to 153 of Sūrat al-An‘ām. In addition, these commandments were mentioned in detail in Sūrat al-Isrā’ as well. These ten commandments are as follows: 1. Prohibition of polytheism. 2. Kindness to the parents. 3. Prohibition of killing one's children out of fear of poverty. 4. Prohibition of approaching immorality, whether in secret or public. 5. Prohibition of killing a soul whose killing is prohibited by Allah. 6. Kindness to the orphan. 7. Giving full measure and weight. 8. Justice in all affairs. 9. Fulfillment of the covenant. 10. Adherence to the right path.
