الشرح المختصر

"As-salawaat-ul-khams-ul-mafroodah" (the five obligatory prayers) are the prayers that Allah has made obligatory upon His slaves five times a day. These prayers are: the Zhuhr (noon prayer), ‘Asr (mid-afternoon prayer), Maghrib (sunset prayer), ‘Ishaa’ (night prayer) and Fajr (dawn prayer). Its obligation has been proven by the Qur‘an, the Sunnah and the scholars' consensus. Furthermore, these prayers are from the religious matters that every Muslim must know by necessity. The one who denies these prayers or abandons it out of negligence becomes a disbeliever, and it is the most important obligation in Islam after the two testimonies of faith. It is the second pillar of the five pillars of Islam. Initially, they were fifty obligatory prayers, then Allah made it easier on His slaves and reduced them to five prayers after the intercession of our Prophet Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him. So they are only five obligatory prayers to perform, but contain the reward of fifty prayers.
