Termination of the time designated for the waiting period of the divorced wife according to the Shariah.
"Inqidā‘" (ending/termination) means ending of the time-limit set for something or reaching the end of something. It is related to the timed rulings of Shariah; they expire once the time interval set for them is over. "Inqidā‘" of a term may entail other Shariah rulings. For example, the "Inqidā‘" of the "‘iddah" (waiting period) of the divorced or widowed woman: Her "‘iddah" expires either by delivering her baby (if she is pregnant) or by the lapse of the months of "‘iddah" or the number of menstrual cycles. When the "‘iddah" expires, certain rulings become effective, such as the termination of her husband's right to take her back in marriage (if the divorce was revocable), the cessation of her right to inherit (from him), the end of the mourning period for a widow, and it becomes lawful for her to remarry. The reasons for "Inqidā‘" differ from one ruling to another according to the chapter of Fiqh (jurisprudence) it belongs to.
"Inqidaa‘": the ending or termination of something. Other meanings: discontinuation, separation.
