A group of people who believe that the imamate is continued from `Ali ibn Abi Taalib, may Allah be pleased with him, to his children until Muhammad ibn `Ali, who is known as Al-Baaqir.
"Al-Baaqiriyyah" are those who say that the imamate belonged to the children of `Ali ibn Abi Taalib, may Allah be pleased with him, until it finally devolved to Muhammad ibn `Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Baaqir. They claim that Al-Baaqir did not die, being the awaited Mahdi. However, Al-Baaqir died in 114 AH.
"Baaqiriyyah": attributed to Ja`far as-Saadiq ibn Muhammad al-Baaqir. "Baaqir": erudite, knowledgeable.
