Items that are sold by the cubit or meter or similar units of length.
"Dhar‘iyyāt" (cubit-measured sold items) refers to the things whose length is measured and estimated in cubits when they are sold. The cubit or "dhirā‘" is the Islamic unit for measuring length. It is approximately equal to six medium fists (placed next to each other), each fist is equal to four extended fingers, each finger is equal to six barley grains lined side by side. The modern length of a cubit is about 46.2 centimeters, i.e. close to half a meter.
"Dhar‘iyyāt": things that are measured in "dhirā‘" (cubits). The word "dhirā‘" means the foreleg of an animal and the forearm of a human, extending from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger.
