The Deafening Cry/Thunderous Shout
(صاخة)

من موسوعة المصطلحات الإسلامية

المعنى الاصطلاحي

A thunderous shout that almost deafens the ears because of its severity and loudness.

الشرح المختصر

"As-Sākhkhah" (the Deafening Cry/Thunderous Shout) refers to the loud cry on the Day of Judgment, and it is another name for that day as well. It has been called thus because it almost deafens the ears, or because all creatures listen to it out of horror. It could perhaps be the name of the second blow into the trumpet on the Day of Judgment. This is one of the names that highlights the greatness of the Last Day, its enormity, and the fear which people will experience on that day. It is a day when the eyes shall stare in horror and the hearts will fly from their places until they reach the throats.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

"Sākhkhah": loud sound, deafening cry. Original meaning: hard beating. The Day of Judgment is called "As-Sākhkhah" because everybody listens to the cry on that Day.
