المعنى الاصطلاحي
A bird with a white belly, a green back, and a large head and beak which hunts small birds.
الشرح المختصر
"Surad" (shrike) is a carnivorous bird of prey only seen on trees. The Arabs used to take a bad omen from seeing it and from the shrill sound it makes, and they used to kill it for this reason. Islam forbade killing it to fight the ill practice of "tiyarah" (taking bad omens from some birds).
