An inherent characteristic that urges an individual to be religiously righteous and have a sense of honor.
"‘Adālah" (integrity/uprightness) is an inherent characteristic that prompts the individual to be religiously righteous and have a sense of honor. Righteousness in religion is achieved by carrying out the obligations and staying away from the prohibitions (which includes avoiding major sins and not insisting on minor sins). Having a sense of honor implies that the individual does what beautifies his character and avoids what defiles and disgraces it.
"‘Adālah": being straight on the truth. "‘Adl": justice; anything that is considered equitable; opposite: "zhulm" (oppression). Derived from "i‘tidāl", which means moderation and straightness. Other meanings: equality, integrity, recommendation.
