المعنى الاصطلاحي
Freeing prisoners from the enemy captivity.
الشرح المختصر
"Fikāk al-asra" (freeing the captives) is to free Muslim prisoners of war whom the enemy has captured. This is done either by fighting, or by paying ransom money from the Muslim treasury, or by exchanging them with enemy prisoners of war. "Aseer" means anyone who has been captured by the enemy, whether he is a Muslim or non-Muslim, young or old, male or female, and whether he was captured in the battle or otherwise, such as a non-Muslim who entered a Muslim land without being granted protection.
