"Masheemah" (placenta) is a flat sac-like organ that grows on the wall of the mother's uterus during pregnancy. It is attached to the fetus by the umbilical cord. The function of the "masheemah" is to provide the fetus with nutrients and oxygen, to fix it in place, and to get rid of waste and excrement. The length of the "masheemah" in humans is about 22 cm.
