المعنى الاصطلاحي

Those who follow the Sunnah of the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, in beliefs and actions and adhere to the Muslim community.

الشرح المختصر

"Ahl-us-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah" (People of the Sunnah and the community) are those who hold onto the Qur’an and the Sunnah, adhere to the methodology of the righteous predecessors in understanding and applying them, stick to the consensus of the Muslim community, and avoid divergence and dissension. They follow the Sunnah of the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him; comply with his beliefs, guidance and manners; and adhere to the Muslim community. They are the saved and victorious sect about whom the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, informed us that they follow his way and the way of his noble Companions after him. They are the Muslims who adhere to the Qur'an and the Sunnah and who avoid the ways of those who are astray and the heretic innovators. "Ahl-us-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah" are not restricted to a certain category, group, country, or time. Rather, all those who have their attributes and follow their methodology belong to them.

التعريف

The prophet’s companions and those who followed them of the tābiꜤīn and their successors, as well as the hadith scholars and the scholars of fiqh who followed their way, and the common people, up till the present. They are called ahl al-sunnah wal-jamāꜤah because of the attach much importance to the prophet’s sunnah and they are united in following the Qur'an and the sunnah.
