Belief and affirmation of what Allah mentioned about His books in the Qur'an and Sunnah, in general as well as in detail, and act upon the Book (the Qur'an) revealed to us.
Belief in the Holy Books is one of the principles of the creed and one of the pillars of faith. One’s faith is not sound until he believes in the Holy Books that Allah revealed to His Messengers, peace be upon them. What is intended here by ‘books’ are the books that Allah the Almighty sent to His messengers as a mercy to people, and for their guidance, so that they can attain happiness in this world and in the hereafter. Belief in the Holy Books include four things: 1. Belief and affirmation that all of the Holy Books were revealed by Allah to His Messengers, and conveyed to His slaves in truth and clear guidance. They are Allah’s speech and no one else’s. Allah the Almighty truly spoke them, as He willed in the way He wanted. Some of that speech was audible and direct from behind a screen, and some was audibly received by the messenger from among the angels, who was then ordered to convey it to the human messenger. 2. Belief and satisfaction with everything in the Qur'an, and that which was not altered or changed from the previous Holy Books, their laws, beliefs, stories, and information. Belief that all of the books attest each other and are not contradictory, and that the earlier books abrogated one another, and that some of the laws of the Torah were abrogated, and that some of the Qur'anic verses were abrogated by subsequent verses. 3. Belief in the books that Allah named such as the Torah, sent to Musa (Moses); the Bible, sent to 'Isa (Jesus); the Psalms, sent to Dawud (David); the Qur'an that was sent to Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and the Scriptures sent to Ibrahim (Abraham). Believing that the Qur'an is the best of the Holy Books, and the last of them that affirms them all. It is the book that all people must follow and accept as a criterion because Allah the Almighty sent His Messenger Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, to all mankind. 4. Acting upon the Qur'an, and everything that was not abrogated from the previous books, and following the Qur'an, outwardly and inwardly while holding firmly unto its teachings, fulfilling its rights, considering what it considers lawful as being lawful and what it considers unlawful as being unlawful, acting upon its orders and avoiding its prohibitions, submitting to it, defending it, reciting it and pondering over it. Some benefits of belief in the Holy Books: 1. Knowledge of Allah’s care, concern and mercy towards His slaves, as He sent a book to every nation to guide them. 2. Knowledge of Allah’s wisdom in His religion, as Allah legislated for every nation what suits their conditions. 3. Thanking Allah the Almighty for the blessing of sending these books.
One of the six essentials of faith. It means firm conviction that the divine scriptures are all God’s word, revealed to His Messengers so that they would deliver them to mankind. Their reading is an act of worship, as is the case with the Qur'an, unless they have been superseded.
