proof (الْبُرْهَان)

proof (الْبُرْهَان)

أصول الفقه الفقه العقيدة

التعريف :

The evidence that leads, when its preliminaries are met, to a ruling of confirmation or negation.

المعنى الاصطلاحي :

Categorical proof that provides knowledge and evidence that reveals the truth.

الشرح المختصر :

“Burhaan” (conclusive proof) is the most conclusive proof that indicates absolute truthfulness. Since "burhān" is a decisive proof, Allah Almighty called the signs given to prophets as "barāheen" (decisive proofs), but not mu‘jizāt (miracles). Signs and decisive proofs proving the prophethood of Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, are many and variant. They are more and greater than those given to other prophets. Some researchers call them miracles, and sometimes they are called proofs of prophethood or manifestations of prophethood. Such names, when given to prophetic signs are more indicative of the intended meaning than the word "mu‘jizāt" (miracles). That is why the term "mu‘jizāt" was not used in the Qur’an or the Sunnah. Instead, the meaning is expressed by "ayah" (sign), "bayyinah" (clear evidence), and "burhān" (decisive proof).

التعريف اللغوي المختصر :
