Excluding some connotations of a general text (expression).
"Takhsees" (specification of a general text) is a general word or expression that involves all pertinent individuals, irrespective of connotations that counter such general indications. These connotations constitute a particularizing proof. The intention behind using a general indication is to subsume all pertinent individuals under the ruling, so some individuals are assigned the ruling apart from others. Consequently, these individuals are apparently subsumed in the connotations of the general word or expression, but they are excluded by "takhsees".
"Takhsees": to assign something exclusively to someone. Opposite: "ta‘meem" (generalization).
To limit a general statement to some of what it applies to, on the basis of clear evidence indicating such limitation.
