المعنى الاصطلاحي
Lowering one's voice in prayer, rather than using a high tone, while reciting the Qur’an for instance.
الشرح المختصر
"Ikhfā’" (low tone in prayer) means to lowers one's voice in prayer while reciting the Qur'an, making "takbīr" (saying "Allahu Akbar" [Allah is the Greatest]), etc. in such a way that only he and one or two men next to him can hear his voice.
