the two contraries (الضِّدَّان)

العقيدة

التعريف :

Two facts that cannot coexist, but they may be absent at the same time.

المعنى الاصطلاحي :

Two things that cannot exist together at the same time, but both can be non-existent at the same time.

الشرح المختصر :

"Diddaan" or "diddayn" means two contraries, i.e. two things that cannot exist together in the same place at the same time; however, they can both be non-existent at the same time, like the black and white colors which cannot be in the same spot together but both can be absent by the existence of red or green for example. Also they could be two existential things such as blackness and whiteness, or one of them could be nothingness as in the case of existence and non-existence.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر :

"Diddayn" or "diddaan": dual form of "didd", which means the opposite or the contrary. Everything that opposes another to overcome it is its "didd". "Diddaan" or "mutadaaddaan" means the two things that cannot exist together at the same time.
