التعريف :


The Arabic term is an exaggerated form of Ꜥārif, or one who predicts the future and tells people’s fortunes.

المعنى الاصطلاحي :


One who claims to have knowledge of affairs using signs to pinpoint certain locations, such as knowing a stolen item or the place of a lost item.

الشرح المختصر :


"‘Arrāf" (diviner/soothsayer) is the one who foretells unseen affairs by intuition, guessing, and assuming; or by drawing a line in the sand; or by reading palms or cups, etc. Some scholars use the word "‘arrāf" to refer to the one who claims to know the Unseen from the past and use the word "kāhin" (soothsayer) to refer to the one who claims to know the Unseen of the past and the future. They both claim knowledge of the Unseen.
