"‘Ilm" (knowledge) is a characteristic of the person who has it. It is by virtue of this characteristic that one is able to distinguish between the real nuances of meanings. There are two types of "‘ilm": 1. Religious divine "‘ilm", which is the knowledge of Allah through His names, attributes, statements, commands, and prohibitions. 2. Worldly "‘ilm", such as knowledge related to medicine, mathematics, professions, etc.
"‘Ilm": knowledge. Opposite: "jahl" (ignorance). Other meanings: understanding, belief.
What is associated with a particular meaning and does not apply to anything else. It is of different types, including name of person and name of genus.
