Someone who claims having knowledge of the unseen and foretells the future affairs through the Jinn and Devils.
"Kāhin" (soothsayer): soothsaying is a type of sorcery that was commonly practiced by people in the pre-Islamic era. It implies prediction of the unseen and foretelling the future. Soothsaying was practiced by the Arabs in three ways: 1. Having a companion from the jinn who stealthily acquires information from the heavens and communicates it to man. 2. The jinn reports the incidents taking place on the earth. 3. Making inferences about the unseen from some means and premises such as using lines in the sand, cups, and the like.
"Kāhin": the one who claims having knowledge of the unseen as well as secrets and hidden aspects of the matters. It is derived from "takahhun" which means fabrication, speculation, conjecture, and lying. Other meanings: an insightful man.
