A hadith that is unsuitable as evidence, due to a criticism levelled at its narrator, or to incompleteness in its chain of transmission, or to some flaw in its chain of transmission or text. It includes all types of ‘weak’ or ḍaꜤīf, and the fabricated or mawḍūꜤ hadiths. It is contrasted with maqbūl, i.e. accepted.
