''Mu‘jizah'' is an irresistible supernatural event, which Allah manifests at the hands of His prophets to prove their truthfulness and as a support for them.
Mu‘jizah (miracle) is an supernatural matter beyond the capacity of humans, which Allah displays through a prophet, in conformity with his call, in order to prove his truthfulness and support him therewith. Extraordinary matters displayed through pious allies of Allah are not miracles. Rather, they are "Karāmah" (supernatural wonder) they are rewarded with due to their following of the prophets. Thus, the wonder-works done by sorcerers and diviners are to be excluded from the meaning of "mu‘juzah" with greater reason, given the fact that they are performed by the evilest people. Also, what such people claim is not beyond imitation, for other sorcerers can come up with the like of such works since they all belong to sorcery and witchcraft. Ahl-us-Sunnah believe that Allah Almighty supported His Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, by evident miracles and marvelous signs. On top of such comes the noble Qur’an by which Allah Almighty challenged the most talented nation in terms of eloquence and rhetoric. Likewise there are other miracles such as Isrā’ and Mi‘rāj (the Prophet's nocturnal journey to Al-Aqsa Mosque and ascension to heaven), the splitting of the moon, making little amounts of food large for him, as well as other signs and miracles.
"Mu‘jizah" (pl. Mu‘jizaat): something supernatural, what makes the contestant unable to compete when challenged. Derived from "`ajz", which means inability.
A preternatural event. It is a miracle that is given only to prophets. Other people cannot have anything similar.
