Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed that will make me enter Paradise if I do it." He said: "Worship Allah and do not associate partners with Him, establish the prayer, pay the obligatory Zakah and fast the month of Ramadan." He said: "By the One in Whose hand my soul is! I will not do more than this." When he left, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is pleased to look at a man from the dwellers of Paradise, then he may look at this (man)."
عن أبي هريرة -رضي الله عنه- أن أعْرَابيًا أتَى النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فقال: يا رسول الله، دُلَّنِي على عمل إذا عَمِلتُه، دخلت الجنة. قال: «تَعْبُدُ الله لا تُشرك به شيئا، وتُقِيم الصلاة، وتُؤتي الزكاة المَفْرُوضَة، وتصوم رمضان» قال: والذي نفسي بيده، لا أَزِيْدُ على هذا، فلمَّا ولَّى قال النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم-: «من سَرَّه أن يَنْظَر إلى رجُل من أهل الجَنَّة فَلْيَنْظر إلى هذا».
شرح الحديث :
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man from the desert dwellers went to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) to ask him to direct him to a deed that would admit him into Paradise. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) replied that entering Paradise and salvation from Hellfire are dependent upon fulfilling the pillars of Islam, saying: "Worship Allah and do not associate partners with Him", which is the meaning of the testimony that "there is no god but Allah", which is the first of the pillars of Islam. It means that There is no god but Allah, and it requires singling out Allah alone in worship, by worshiping Him alone and not associating any partners with him. "And establish the prayer", i.e. perform the five obligatory daily prayers including the Friday Prayer. "Pay the obligatory Zakah", i.e. give the amount that Allah has legislated, paying it to those who are entitled to it. "Fast the month of Ramadan", i.e. maintain the fasting of Ramadan at its time. He said: "By the One in Whose hand my soul is! I will not do more than this"; i.e. I will not perform any other act of obedience in addition to what I heard from you. The narration in Sahīh Muslim adds: "neither will I do less." When he left, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is pleased to look at a man from the dwellers of Paradise, then he may look at this (man)"; i.e. he may look at this Bedouin, for indeed he would be from the people of Paradise if he continued to abide by what I commanded him. This is evident from the Hadīth of Abu Ayyūb (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sahīh Muslim: "If he abides by what he was commanded to do, he will enter Paradise." Hajj to Allah's Sacred House was not mentioned in the Hadīth although it is the fifth pillar of Islam, and this may be because the Hadīth came before Hajj was made obligatory. In short, the Hadīth proves that whoever fulfills what Allah made obligatory upon him – the five prayers, fasting the month of Ramadan, paying Zakah, and avoiding what is unlawful – deserves to enter Paradise and attain salvation from Hellfire.
