الشرح المختصر :
"Ism" (Name) is a word by which something is identified and known, such as the names of Allah that indicate His Essence and His attributes of perfection, e.g. "Al-Qadeer" (The Omnipotent) and "Al-‘Aleem" (The Omniscient).
التعريف اللغوي المختصر :
"Ism" (pl. asmā"): a word that indicates a meaning in itself. It is derived from "sumuw" which means highness, or derived from "simah" which means a sign, because the "ism" (name) is a sign of its referent.
