Knowledge. The Vedas is the name of the oldest Hindu scriptures, written in old Sanskrit and collated by an Indian sage called Veda Vyasa. It is a collection of religious hymns in four sections, each forming a book. The first is the Rigveda, which means the royal Veda, the oldest scripture, containing 1028 hymns. The second is Samaveda, containing a set of hymns which are sung before the deities. The third is the Yajurveda containing the hymns sung before supplication. The fourth is the Atharvaveda containing the appeals for removing disasters and calamities. This last book is distinguished from the other three by containing a number of brahman legislations.
