التعريف :
A hadith narrated by narrators who are reliable or even more reliable, differently from the narration of an unblemished and accurate narrator, in either the chain of transmission or the text. It is contrasted with al-shādhdh, i.e. The odd one.
المعنى الاصطلاحي :
A Hadith that is narrated by a trustworthier narrator in contradiction to a narrator who is less trustworthy.
الشرح المختصر :
"Mahfoozh" (memorized/well-secured) is a type of accepted Hadiths. It is narrated by a trustworthier narrator, in contradiction to a narrator who is less trustworthy, due to more accuracy on his part or other reasons. Being "mahfoozh" is not enough for a Hadith to be authentic. Other conditions of authenticity must be fulfilled as well.
التعريف اللغوي المختصر :
"Mahfoozh": something that is kept. It is derived from "hifzh", which means care and attention. Opposite: "tadyee‘" (wasting). Other meanings: preserved, guarded, durable, continuous, overseen.
