‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a woman was found killed in one of the expeditions of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), and so he denounced killing women and children.
The Prophet's denouncement of the killing of women and children indicates that it is forbidden to kill them. His words: "this woman would not have fought," which appear in some of the Hadīths with a similar meaning point to the reason for it being forbidden to kill women: that the majority of them do not fight, even if some of them possess evil and boldness. The rule is generalized, so if a woman does fight, she will be fought against.
