Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Life in this world is sweet and green, and indeed, Allah has made you successors there to see how you will behave. So, be cautious of this world and be cautious of women, for indeed the first temptation of the children of Israel was due to women."
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) compared worldly life to a sweet, green piece of fruit, because it invites desire and inclination. He said that Allah made us successors of one another, generation after generation, and Allah, Blessed and Exalted, watches how we behave to see whether we obey Him or not. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us to be cautious of the temptations of this worldly life in case we are pulled to abandon the Commands of Allah, the Exalted. Significantly, women are most powerful temptation in this life. So, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) underscored the danger of being captivated by them, despite them initially being included under the general warning against this worldly life. He said that the first trial of the children of Israeli was due to women; many noble individuals were ruined due to women.
