Pilgrim ending his state of "ihraam" [ritual state of consecration assumed for Hajj and ‘Umrah] by doing specific actions.
"Ihlaal" or "tahallul" (ending the state of ritual consecration assumed for Hajj and ‘Umrah]) is when a pilgrim in a state of "ihraam" exits this state after performing specific actions. "Ihlaal" is of two types: 1. "Ihlaal/tahallul asghar" (minor): by which it becomes permissible for the pilgrim to do everything that were prohibited to him while in "ihraam" except sexual intercourse, according to scholarly consensus. This type occurs when two of the following three actions are preformed: casting pebbles at "jamrat-ul-‘aqabah", shaving the head, and performing "tawaf-ul-ifaadah". 2. "Ihlaal/tahallul akbar" (major): by which it becomes permissible for the pilgrim to do all the things that were prohibited to him while in "ihraam", according to scholarly consensus. This type occurs when all three actions are completed: casting the pebbles at "jamrat-ul-‘aqabah", shaving the head, and performing "tawaf-ul-ifaadah".
"Ihlaal": It is derived from "ahalla", which means ending the state of "ihraam" [ritual state of consecration assumed for Hajj and ‘Umrah]. Original meaning: opening something.
