The clear, unambiguous verses whose meaning is not hidden from anyone.
"Al-Āyāt al-muhkamah" (clear verses): The Noble Qur"an has both clear and ambiguous verses. The "Āyāt muhkamah" are those that do not have various probabilities, ambiguity, or confusion, and whose meaning is not hidden from most people. Most of the verses of the Qur’an is of this type. On the other hand, the ambiguous verses are characterized by a [relative] ambiguity whose meaning may be unclear to some people and clear to some others; scholars, as opposed to ignorants, know their interpretation. Nevertheless, the knowledge of some of them is exclusive to Allah, the Exalted. The standard ruling regarding the ambiguous verses is that they are to be interpreted in the light of the "Al-Āyāt al-muhkamah" in order to remove confusion.
