المعنى الاصطلاحي :

Obeying Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, in respect to His rights and commands

الشرح المختصر :

"Janb" (side) is not one of the attributes of Allah. In fact, what is meant by the statement of Allah, the Almighty, which means: {Lest a soul should say, "Oh [how big is] my regret over what I neglected in the "Janb" of Allah} means negligence of obedience to Him and His commands, as was explained by the Muslim predecessors. Attributing something to Allah, the Almighty, does not necessarily mean that it is one of His attributes. In fact, some attributes of the created beings and their intrinsic descriptions could be attributed to Allah, while they are not considered His attributes; according to the consensus of the created beings. When someone says: "You were negligent concerning the "janb" or "jānib" (pl. sides) of someone", he does not mean that the negligence occurred towards that person in a physical sense, in fact what is meant is that the negligence occurred in regard to the person"s rights, i.e. it occurred in a moral sense. If this is the meaning of the word "janb" in regard to the creation, how could someone believe that the meaning differs in regard to the Creator, and understand it to mean negligence towards Allah"s being?

التعريف اللغوي المختصر :

"Janb": area of the body that extends from below the armpit to the waist. The "janb" of anything is its side. Other meanings: closeness to something.
