المعنى الاصطلاحي :

The Attributes that Allah the Exalted established for Himself in the Qur"an or on the tongue of His Messenger, may Allah"s peace and blessings be upon him, in his Sunnah.

الشرح المختصر :

"As-Sifāt Ath-Thubootiyyah" (established attributes) are the attributes that Allah the Exalted established for Himself in the Qur"an or on the tongue of His Messenger, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, in his Sunnah. Another definition: the attributes that indicate an established and existential meaning. All of Allah’s attributes are those of praise and perfection with absolutely no imperfection in any aspect, such as Life, Knowledge, Omnipotence, Istiwā (rising over the Throne), the two hands, the countenance, and others. It is a must to affirm them for Allah in a way that befits His majesty. The established attributes are divided into various categories according to the basis of categorization. * Attributes related to the Essence of Allah, Blessed and Exalted: 1. Attributes of Essence: They are essential part of Allah’s essence, such as Life, Knowledge, Omnipotence, His face, His two hands, etc. 2. Attributes of Actions: They are related to Allah’s will and power, such as Creating, Providing sustenance, Istiwā, Allah’s coming, etc. * Attributes related to the proofs of affirming them: 1. Attributes affirmed by textual and rational proofs: They are attributes that are established by religious text, rational proof, and sound natural disposition, such as Knowledge, Hearing, Seeing, ‘Uluw (Allah being High above His creation), Omnipotence, etc. 2. Attributes established by textual proof alone, such as Istiwā, His two Hands and Face, Descending (to the lowest heaven every night), etc.
