Woman sitting inside a howdah, which is a means of transport for women.
“Zha‘eenah” (woman/howdah) originally referred to the she-camel which people ride for the purpose of travel. Then it was commonly used to refer to the woman inside the howdah, one of the means of transport for women. A howdah is a seat made from poles and fitted with a canopy.
“Zha‘eenah”: woman, riding camel, howdah. It is derived from “yazh‘an”, which means to travel. The woman was called “zha‘eenah” because she travels when her husband travels and settles when he settles. She is also said to have gained this name because she used to ride camels or sit inside howdahs, both of which are called “zha‘eenah”.
