المعنى الاصطلاحي

It is said to be the name of the Angel of Death, who is in charge of taking people’s souls.

الشرح المختصر

“‘Izrā’eel” has been known among some scholars as the name of the Angel of Death. However, this name is neither mentioned in the Qur’an nor in the authentic Prophetic Sunnah. It is mentioned only in some reports that could be from the Israelites. The correct opinion, though, is to call him with the name which he was called with by Allah, the Almighty, as mentioned in the Qur’an: {The Angel of Death who has been entrusted with you will take your souls.} [As-Sajdah: 11]
