المعنى الاصطلاحي

The language spoken by the Arabs.

الشرح المختصر

"Al-‘Arabiyyah" (Arabic) is the language spoken by the Arabs. It is the best of languages because it is the language of the Qur’an and the language that Allah chose to be spoken by His Messenger Muhammad, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. It is one of the oldest and most widespread languages throughout the world. It contains twenty-eight written letters, and it is written from right to left. It is also called "Lughat al-Qur’an" (language of the Qur’an) and "Lughat at-Dād" (language of the letter "dād"). "Al-‘Arabiyyah" has many linguistic sciences, such as the science of "nahw" (grammar), the science of "sarf" (morphology), and the science of "balāghah" (rhetoric).

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

"Al-‘Arabiyyah": the language that Arabs speak. Opposite: "‘ajam" (non-Arabs). Derived from "ta‘reeb", which means clarification, declaration.
