الشرح المختصر

"Fitnah" is a great and praiseworthy trait, the source of which is intellect. It is of two types: 1.Bestowed "Fitnah": it is from Allah on whomever He wills of His slaves, enlightening therewith their insight and enabling them to comprehend what others cannot, so they become perceptive, sharp-witted, shrewd, and intelligent. 2. Acquired "Fitnah": that a person obtains through one"s own diligence and experiences, and by accompanying those who possess knowledge, intelligence, and insight, and benefiting from their experience. Advantages of "fitnah" include the following: 1. It guides one to Allah"s rulings and established norms in the Shari‘ah and the universe, and urges one to contemplate the favors of Allah and His (universal and textual) signs. 2. It encourages performing acts of kindness and helping those who are in need of help. 3. It is a means to safety (in religion) and distinguishing between the truth and falsehood, good and evil, and guidance and error. 4. It is one of the components of the successful personality, just like strength and honesty. Some of the means for acquiring "fitnah": believing in Allah The Almighty, fearing Allah, abandoning sins, self-reproaching, seeking religious and scientific knowledge, contemplating and knowing things, and avoiding excessiveness in eating, drinking and sleeping.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

"Fitnah": cleverness, skillfulness, alertness after heedlessness. "Fatin" (adj.): clever, alert. Opposite: "ghabāwah" (stupidity), "balādah" (slow-wittedness), "ghaflah" (heedlessness). Original meaning: intelligence, good knowledge of something. "Tafteen": enlightening. Other meanings: perception, understanding, wisdom, awareness.
