المعنى الاصطلاحي

The commodities that have no equivalents on the market, or have equivalents that are valued disproportionately, such as animals, real estate, etc.

الشرح المختصر

"Qeemiyyāt" (non-fungible goods): Muslim jurists divide properties on different accounts. For example, a commodity may have equivalents with exact attributes, such as certain types of fabric, car models, etc. These are called "mithliyyāt", for they have equivalents with exact descriptions available on the market. So their prices do not diverge. On the other hand, the commodity might not have equivalents with exact descriptions, for each individual differs from others, and thus prices diverge greatly. For example, sheep would differ from each other in weight, shape, quality of meat, etc. So these commodities are called "qeemiyyāt," meaning that they must be given a market value to sell or buy them. Some schools of Fiqh, like the Mālikis, call these commodities "muqawwamāt", and the Shāfi‘is call them "mutaqawwimāt."

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

"Qeemiyyāt" (sing. qeemiyy): a commodity that is valued at a fair price, for there is no exact description under whose category the commodity falls. In other words, the commodity has no equivalent with which it can be exchanged.
