invalid (بَاطِل)

الحديث أصول الفقه

التعريف :

Any act of worship, contract or action that does not bring about its intended effect from the religious point of view. For example, an ‘invalid sale contract’ is one that does not bring about its effects of transfer of ownership and taking the due price.

المعنى الاصطلاحي :

A deed that is carried out in a manner that is contrary to the Islamic Shariah.

الشرح المختصر :

"Bātil" (invalid) is the invalid deed that a person who is competent for religious assignment carries out in a way or state that is contrary to what is required and commanded by Allah or His Messenger. This applies to acts of worship, such as performing prayer without purification, or to transactions, such as a person selling something that he does not own. Although, this act is basically valid, but it is considered invalid because it is not in conformity with the Shariah.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر :

"Bātil": false or invalid. Opposite: "haqq" (truth), "sihhah" (validity). Original meaning: going away or remaining for a short time.
