"Ta’ammul" (contemplation) is one of the greatest acts of worship related to the heart, and it is the origin of good deeds, and the starting point of knowledge. It includes contemplation of the interests of the Hereafter and ways of achieving them, and avoiding the perils of the Hereafter and ways of warding them off. It also includes contemplation of the interests of the worldly life and how to achieve them, and of its evils and how to keep away from them. The greatest type is contemplation of the interests of the Hereafter, such as contemplating the signs of Allah; whether those related to His creation or those related to His legislation, along with the ways to acquire knowledge about them.
"Ta’ammul": looking thoughtfully at something for a long time, deep reflective thinking. It is derived from "amal", which means expectation, anticipation, hope. Other meanings: verification, assurance, perception, reflection, meditation.
This term suggests that what is being considered reflects special accuracy and clear meaning. Sometimes it indicates that a particular answer is quite powerful.
