"Ta‘ziyah" (consolation) means consoling the afflicted person through any measure that would alleviate his grief. Islam encourages offering condolences to those who are afflicted with calamity, as a manifestation of cooperating upon righteousness and piety and to urge patience and contentment with the fate decreed by Allah. Condolences are achieved with any spoken words that comfort the bereaved and encourage him to seek reward for his affliction from Allah, the Almighty. Reported wordings of consolation include: - "To Allah belongs what He took, and to Him belongs what He gave, and everything has an appointed time with Him. So be patient and seek the reward from Allah." - "May Allah grant you good consolation."
"Ta‘ziyah": ordering and encouraging the exercise of patience. Other meanings: consoling, comforting.
