The visible fleshy part that surrounds the mouth.
"Shafah" (Lip) is the piece of flesh that covers the teeth. In Wudu (ablution) and Ghusl (ritual bath), it is obligatory to wash the part of the lips that is visible when they are closed naturally without exaggeration.
"Shafah": the border and edge of something. A person’s "shafah" is his lip; i.e. the visible fleshy part that covers the teeth. It is derived from "ishfā" which means elevation and prominence.
Humans and animals drink using their lips.
