"Safh" (pardoning) is to overlook someone's sin and forgive him, refrain from returning his evil with its like by eliminating ill feelings such as hatred, revenge, etc. and abstain from punishing him either verbally or physically. "Safh" is of two types: 1. Praiseworthy: which is to forgive the wrongdoer if there is a benefit in doing so. 2. Blameworthy: which is to forgive someone when it is inappropriate to do so. This is when the person deserves to be punished and not forgiven. Examples of this include punishing the oppressive assaulters who are not deterred except by punishment.
"Safh": pardon, forgiveness. Original meaning: width and side of something. Other meanings: ignoring an offence and inflicting no punishment.
