Overstepping the boundary set by Shariah.
"‘Udwān" (transgression) is from the blameworthy traits that Islam has forbidden and warned against. It means going beyond the limit prescribed by Shariah. It is of two types: 1. "‘Udwān" against Allah's rights: It means overstepping the limits in permissible matters, either by excessiveness or total abstention, such as refraining from eating meat. As for as the acts of worship, it occurs by committing the prohibitions such as polytheism, religious innovations, and sins. 2. "‘Udwān" against human rights: It means physical, financial, or honor abuse.
"‘Udwān": oppression. It is derived from "ta‘addi" which means going beyond and overstepping the limit. Opposite: "‘Adl" (justice). Other meanings: disputing, harming.
To launch an aggression without any right, and to deal injustice by word, deed or status.
