A great seat having pillars, which is created by Allah, then rose over it and ordered the angels to hold it. It is as a dome over the universe and it is the ceiling of the creation.
"Al-`Arsh" is the greatest and highest of all Allah's creations. Allah created it and then ascended it. He commanded the angels to bear it and revere it. Allah is above it as well as all of His creations. Among the descriptions of the "`Arsh": 1. Allah created it above water, 2. It is the ceiling of Paradise, like a dome over the universe, 3. It is above the seven heavens, and above all created beings, 4. It has pillars by which it is elevated, 5. Great and huge angels bear it; who are eight in unmber on the Day of Resurrection. (3)
"Al-`Arsh": king's chair, the roof of a house. Original meaning: elevation and ascension. Other meanings: the base or foundation of something; might, and sovereignty.
A great creation with legs to stand on. It extends over the heavens and the earth, and all in between, standing above all creation. It is the ceiling of paradise which is the top heaven. It is the first thing God created.
