Knowing the Shariah rulings through their detailed proofs by using jurisprudential rules and methods of deduction.
"Fiqh" (jurisprudence) includes knowledge of all legal rulings, whether they pertain to acts of worship, transactions, or prescribed corporal penalties, along with their proofs from the Quran and the Sunnah. To have "Fiqh", i.e. understanding of the religion, is a noble characteristic and a high rank, as "Fiqh" is of utmost importance in a Muslim's life, because through it he learns about his religion and understands what is lawful and what is unlawful in Islamic Shariah. Islamic "Fiqh" was introduced as a science after the death of the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, then its fundamentals and rules and other sub-branches related to it followed, passing through many stages. Islamic "Fiqh" has many great qualities, such as: Divinity, universality, comprehensiveness, originality, durability and survival, validity for all times and places, objectivity, and other great qualities.
"Fiqh": perceiving something and having knowledge of it. "Faqeeh": scholar, knowledgeable person. Any knowledge of something is called "Fiqh". Another definition: perceiving subtle matters. Original meaning: opening and splitting; hence, knowledge was called "Fiqh" because the person who has knowledge cuts through meanings and opens up what is closed (ambiguous) thereof. Other meanings: understanding.
Knowledge of religious practical rulings deduced from detailed evidence.
