الشرح المختصر :

"Istirjaa‘" (saying: "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed unto Him we shall return.") is an act of the Sunnah which a Muslim should observe when afflicted by a calamity or disaster, whether it is big or small. The meaning of the statement "Indeed we belong to Allah" is: I admit and affirm that our selves, our family, and our wealth are slaves to Allah, and that Allah owns us and does whatever He wills with us. The meaning of the statement "and indeed unto Him we shall return" is: I admit and affirm that we shall return to Allah first through death and then through resurrection from the graves. This inspires the person to entrust his affairs to Allah, rely upon him, and stay patient at the time of affliction.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر :

"Istirjaa‘": restoring, recovering, and reclaiming (something). It also refers to saying: "Inna lillah wa inna ilayhi raaji‘oon." (Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed unto Him we shall return.)
