A woman who has stopped menstruating, but does not know why her menses has stopped.
"Murtābah" is the woman who is in her "‘iddah" (waiting period) after divorce or after her husband"s death, and her menstruation stops without her knowing the cause, and she observes signs of pregnancy, such as movement, swelling, breast milk, and the like, and she is not certain that her womb is free from a fetus. She is also called "mumtaddat-ut-tuhr" (woman with an extended period of purification) and "mukhtalifat al-aqrā" (woman with an irregular period).
"Murtābah": doubtful and hesitant female. Derived from "rayb", which means: doubt. Original meaning of "rayb": anxiety and confusion; opposite of "yaqeen" (certitude) and "tuma"neenah" (tranquility). Other meanings of "rayb": assumption, delusion, suspicion, allegation, obsessive doubt.
