Examining particular instances, or majority of such instances, to apply their ruling to a general instance that includes them.
"Istiqraa" (induction) is a kind of proof, which is of two types: 1. Complete "istiqraa": establishing a ruling in a particular instance for its being established in a general instance. An example: purification is a must for the validity of prayer; this is because after the induction of all prayers, whether voluntary or obligatory, it was found that no prayer is valid except with purification. 2. Incomplete "istiqraa": examining the majority of particular instances to establish a general and common ruling that includes all such instances. An example: the minimum duration of menses is one day and one night; which has been determined by induction of the women cases.
"Istiqraa": surveying, following, investigating. Other meanings: collecting.
Consideration of detailed points so as to apply their ruling to a whole matter that includes these details.
