‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that after the revelation of Sūrat An-Nasr, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite in every prayer: "Glory be to You, our Lord, and praise. O Allah, forgive me!" In another narration, she reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to recited frequently in Rukū‘ and prostration: "Glory be to You O Allah, Our Lord, and praise. O Allah, forgive me," following the command of the Qur'an. In a third narration, she reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to frequently say before he passed away: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise. I ask You to forgive me and I repent to You!" I (‘Ā'ishah) said: "O Messenger of Allah, what are these words that you have started saying?" He said: "A sign has been made for me relating to my Ummah, and when I see it I should repeat these words." Then he recited Sūrat An-Nasr: ﴿When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes, Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance﴾. " In a fourth narration, she reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite frequently: "Glory and praise be to Allah. I ask Allah to forgive me and I repent to Him." I (‘Ā'ishah) said: "O Messenger of Allah, I notice that you say frequently: 'Glory and praise be to Allah. I ask Allah to forgive me and I repent to Him.'" He said: " "My Lord informed me that I will see a sign in my Ummah, and when I see it, I should recite frequently: 'Glory and praise be to Allah. I ask Allah to forgive me and I repent to Him.' I have indeed seen it: ﴿When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest﴾ that is the conquest of Makkah ﴿And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes, then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.﴾ [Sūrat An-Nasr]"
شرح الحديث :
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that after the revelation of Sūrat An-Nasr, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite in each Rukū‘ and prostration the following words: "Glory be to You, our Lord, and all praise. O Allah, forgive me." He recited these words in compliance with the order he received in the Qur'an in the verse: ﴿Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him﴾ [Sūrat An-Nasr: 3]. She also reported that she asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about these words, which he started to say in Rukū‘ and prostration. He said that Allah, the Almighty, told him that he would see a sign in his nation, and when he sees it, he should frequently say: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise. I ask You to forgive me and I repent to You!" This sign is mentioned in Sūrat An-Nasr, which reads: ﴿When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest (conquest of Makkah), and you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes, Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance﴾.
