المعنى الاصطلاحي :

An inheritance-related case wherein the heirs were seventeen females: three wives, two grandmothers, four half-sisters from the same mother, and either eight full sisters or eight half-sisters from the same father.

الشرح المختصر :

"Umm al-Arāmil" (the Mother of Widows) is one of the inheritance-related cases that were given a special name. It was named thus because of the large number of widows included. It is also called "Umm al-Furooj" because all the heirs are females. A third name for it is "As-Sab‘a ‘Ashariyyah", or the case of the seventeen, for it involved seventeen shares. The original divisor, 12, is adjusted to 17, each woman gets one share.
