التعريف :
To have a general idea of something.
المعنى الاصطلاحي :
Forming an image of something in the mind and realizing its essence without any negation or affirmation.
الشرح المختصر :
"Tasawwur" is to form a conception of something in the mind, or to realize the meaning of a singular essence without making any judgment about it; i.e. without affirming or negating anything with regards to it. An example is to realize the concept of pleasure, pain, bitterness, and sweetness. To logicians, "tasawwur" is a category of knowledge that is antonymous to "tasdeeq" (assent), or is more specific than it. "Tasdeeq" is a conceptualization coupled with judgement, whether positive or negative.

"Tasawwur": conceptualization; derived from "soorah" (image). It means forming an image (of something) in one's mind.
